I had such a busy day and at 6 pm the thought ran across my mind, that if I went to bed right then I'd probably sleep all night just fine. Maybe I should have followed that thought. Lol
Last night was my paper piecing zoom meeting, I do love that time. I have to miss once in a while, but this year that time has been about the only sewing time I've had. My mind has been on mother, how she is, and could I be doing better for her. The nursing home she's in in rated pretty high in our area, but it seems like they don't have near enough staff to really give proper care to the residents. Anyway, those thoughts are for another time. I started a small piece back in Oct or Nov to give mother for Christmas. It was very close to finished when she had the thing they won't call a stroke that has left her with stroke symptoms. I just put it away, decided I'd work on it later. So last month I got it out and finished it. Turned out so cute too. Mother is Betty, and a friends little girl always called her Betty Boop. When I was in high school I found this cute mirror with Betty boop on it for mother's birthday. That started this boop collection that grew for years. She has the Franklin mint Betty boop plates you have on the wall, and so many more. When she got her new house she decided not to put them all back up. They had gotten too hard to keep dusted. But the mirror that started it all went right by the front door exactly where it had been in her old house. So now I'll take this small quilt and hang it on the wall in her room at the nursing home. I hope it helps that place feel just a little less like punishment and a little more like home.

I started a new project the first of the year I think.
Little Star Quiltshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00710622732362283691noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6253616384246688090.post-22437637756244807692019-10-15T16:15:00.001-05:002019-10-15T16:15:02.837-05:00A New Day Well I finally got the last post to publish, but it took me 3 weeks and I had to delete all the pictures. I got the app updated today so I'll see if it lets me publish with picture now.
I'm just writing a short post today as a test for adding pictures. Since my other post took so long to be published.

this is the latest in my UFO efforts. I have had it played out for a few weeks. I made some changes the other day and I like where it's at. I'll start sewing it next time I have a day or two to work.

I had a cold over the weekend and today I'm starting to feel better. I read two books and started the third one. I probably should have just watched TV, my head hurt so bad, but you know how that is 240 stations and nothing I care to see. My kids pay for us to have Hulu and the cell provider gave us Netflix, I have Amazon Prime too but I didn't find a thing that was better than a book.

Ok lets see if this works, if it does I'll try to be back more often. Y'all have a very quilty day. My life got very busy a few years ago and I just didn't have the where with all to write. Things are going at a some what slower pace right now and I am going to see how this all goes. I'm using the Android app today, but I'm not sure how to upload photos. When I opened the app it told me it might need updated, I have no idea how to do that either. Lol
Let's talk about quilts though since that is really why I started this blog back in 2008. I have kind of been on a finishing spree the last couple of years. I decided I had too many It is in the totes. I have 3 tops ready to quilt right now, I quilted 5 a few months ago. I had an accident around Thanksgiving of 2018 and have had to use a cane to walk since then. I had knee surgery mid June and thought by now I would be able to stand and walk enough to use the long arm machine by now. I was wrong, so we had my daughter in loves quilt, quilted by the store locally. So I'm finishing quilt tops while I'm down. I have finished a few of the older UFOs, but I've started a couple of new ones as well. Last month my cousin and I did a shop hop and she bought me a couple of Christmas panels that were companion pieces. I later found some other fabrics that were also companions. I bought 2 yards of a border print fabric as well. I finished that top today. I have a BOM from 2018 I need to put a border on and it will be ready to quilt. I started and finished a Patch Pals giraffe for my new Great grand daughter as well. It just needs quilted, and it is small enough that I might do it on my home machine. My grand daughter, ( not the babies mom) is graduating from Texas A&M in Dec. I have a plan and part of the fabrics for her quilt. I will start that one this week. I also will pull out one of my older UFOs and start to put it together. That has kind of been my process, start a new one and finish an old one.
On another thought I had such a love hate relationship with foundation paper piecing for a long time. 2 years ago I decided I really wanted to get past my fears of it and maybe really get good at it. I joined a club at the local store and I am in love with it now. I made 3 Grinch blocks to use on the back of a Grinchy quilt I made for one of my children. 2 were Grinch and 1 was Cindy louwho. They turned out fantastic, I think. Last month I finished up 2 mini quilts for the front door. A bunny for Easter and a Reindeer and Santa for Christmas. I'm starting a new summer one for my daughter in law and might make 2 so my hubby and use one on our door for summer. These are Turtles on the beach. I will post pictures of all of these once I figure out how to on my phone, or I'll get out the laptop and do it soon.
Well guess I should go for now, I'm glad to be back.
Well, a friend suggested yesterday that maybe she would like to just pretend this is her new year and reset. Because apparently her resolutions have not gotten going as she had planned and she just is ready to go now. I have to admit that even though I am working on things that I decided I would work on each month. I completed my Jan. UFO project. Did I tell you last month I was joining the All People Quilt UFO Challenge for 2016. I did and my list is some partial quilt tops that need to be completed and blocks from BOM's that I started years ago. We used 12 month list . On the first of every month they do a random number generator and pick a number. Jan. they used #2, and this month it is #5. The two BOM's I chose for I bought and started in 2006. They were partially pieced, well a few of them were, and two of them I had cut incorrectly and there was no way to fix them. The end of the month I just went out and found fabric that is similar and remade the blocks from start to finish. I discovered that most likely I made the same mistake with both of them and I didn't do a very good job matching the fabrics for it. LOL just going to let it go this time. I have finished all of them, I did find in the Civil War style I have one more block than in the Bluebonnet style. I remember the block and I made it, but it was not with the others and I can't find it. I'll keep looking.
For Christmas one year we made a block for each person in the group in the colors they choose. I already had a Christmas quilt started in the current then colors of pink and gold. So I asked for traditional red and greed. I laid it out earlier today to see where I was. Looks like I need two more blocks to finish it out, so I will try to find some Christmas fabric in my stash and make a couple of blocks and get it finished up. Maybe I will get it quilted this month too, we will see.
Time is truly moving faster every year I live. I was told all my life that would be how it worked and I just had no idea how accelerated it would feel. I wish it was not the case, I always feel so behind because of it.
Well, I am off to take care of the laundry. Until next time yall have a very quilty week.
I have been so out of the flow of blogging for so long and to be honest I can't even say why. I guess I just haven't picked the computer up much since April. I have been busy with swaps, secret Pal, and Quilting bee blocks. I have done a good bit of traveling as well, with a trip to El Paso to see my daughter and grandchildren in July, and back to Chattanooga TN, in Sept to watch my grandsons for a weekend while my daughter was in a wedding, then in Nov. we went to New Orleans for a wedding, and then on to Chattanooga again for Thanksgiving.Hubby and I were not able to go, but our Son was married on the 17th of Nov. in Costa Rica. Bam it was time for Christmas and so much to do getting ready for that. I am still working on a special gift for my last Secret Pal for the year. I am continuing with the Quilting Bee, but have decided to take some time off from Secret Pals and swaps. It is just time to do some finishes for my family and my own home. I have a tub of UFO/PIG's that would surprise my family if they found it. Many are gifts I started and never finished, and some are just block of the month kits that I have started and purchased the entire year, but only got part of them made. That brings me to a subject I have been thinking about as I plan my next year. I started doing swaps and Secret Pal, to make sure that I would not just sit and do nothing. I was kind of at a low point in my life and I needed to know that someone would appreciate the things I enjoy doing. I needed some positive fed back that would help me feel better about myself. So I wonder what this year will do to my self esteem. I guess it will just be on me, to make sure I feel good about myself and maybe I'll have to show off to you all as I complete my UFO/Pig's.
Hi, everyone I am not enjoying my birthday so much, but I will be making the best of it any way. I will head to the sewing room after I have posted this. It has been a very busy few weeks so far. Hubby and I took a trip and visited lots of family. I spent 2 weeks with my daughter and her family, and hubby spent one of those weeks with his father and family in another state. He was there for his sisters birthday, she turned 70. I was there to see my grandsons and their mother. Our youngest grandson will be 1 in a few weeks and while I have gotten to see him a few times since he was born, I have not gotten to spend as much time with him as I did his big brother his first year. So needless to say I have felt very much like I'm missing his childhood. It was so good to get to spend time with them all. I was going to add a great photo of the boys here, but again I am having problems adding photos to my blog. I have too many , but they are on my other Google account and I can't seem to get them to this one. I will get this figured out one day, but I just want to spend more time sewing than I do playing on the computer. LOL
I have had a few swaps that I finished up since I last posted, and I love the quilts I made for both. I find that sometimes I love the quilts I made so much it is hard to decide to send them off. These last two were especially that way. The kitten mini I had started for myself, and it turned out even better than I had envisioned it. , I loved it , and I sent it off as scheduled even though I wanted to keep it. LOL I hope that she loves it as much as I did.
Then there was the rainbow mini, which I sent off this week and it turned out even better than I had thought and I loved it. She should get it soon and I sure hope she likes it. It was a little late going out, since the host asked me not to ship when I was going to. That was before my vacation, and I just put it aside and finished up other things that were a go. The day after I left home I got the go ahead to send when ready. I contacted the host and made sure she knew I had left town and it would be late before I could send. I got high on it once I finished the mountain of laundry that was necessary to finish. I loved the extras I made as much as I did the actual mini I made. I will be making myself another one soon.
Well, I guess I need to get my fun for the day going . So yall have a very quilty day.
Well, hello there everyone, I hope this cold winter has not gotten you down too badly. My sweet hubby has really had a hard time with this winter for some reason. I think it is because he is usually so busy and this year things have been very slow for him. I am looking forward to some sun that is for sure, but I'm not having as hard a time as he is.
Lunch time on Friday mother was here and she put her cane against the wall, while we ate. I went to the table to sit down and for no apparent reason the cane fell, and landed on my toes. It hurt a lot, but after about a half hour I had kind of forgotten how bad it hurt. Then on Mon. afternoon I looked at my feet for some reason and boom, there was a royal blue toe. I am serious it was blue, and maybe it was because it was cold I looked at it. Since Mon. I have not been able to keep my feet warm, and that toe is the worst, I don't think it's broken, but the bruising must have something to do with the coldness of it.
I started my Rainbow min for the swap I am in this week and I am loving how it looks, I am still not terribly comfortable with paper piecing, but getting better. I have several items planned for extras on this one too. I need to bind the Kitty mini, and get some extras made for it. I have several things in mind for this as well. I have to get as much done every day as possible because I am going to see my grandchildren at the end of the month. Hubby is going to see his sister and dad for her birthday. He will drive me to Tennessee and my daughter will pick me up and take me the rest of the way to her home. He will go on to Pennsylvania. Then after he spends four or five days with them he will come to our daughters house for four or five days, then we will head home. I love these trips, but I seem to struggle with getting back into the swing of things after we get home. Like last year I started the year off great with working out and eating right. Then went to be with Brena when the new baby was born. By the time I got home all thought of being healthy and fit had just drifted to the back of my mind. My start to fitness has been much slower this year, but is going on never the less, so I have to be hyper vigilant to stay moving while I am gone as well as get back to normal as soon as possible after we get home. The weather is often a factor, we go see her in the spring and its cooler in TN than in Texas. So by time we get home its getting too hot to work out, outside like I do in the winter. This winter has been too cold for out doors, so maybe it won't be as hard this year. LOL
Well, I should be in the sewing room, so I am off to make another block in the rainbow mini, and maybe cut out the next one. Gotta go pick mothers car up from the tire place as soon as hubby gets back. She got a screw in her tire and they had to replace it instead of repair it. Well, it is another new year, and I am looking forward to some new experiences and new quilt projects. I hope all of you will get excited too. I am still working on the photo issues, but I have to admit I have not taken much time to figure it out. Therefore I have just not posted. It seems the posts with photos are much more popular.
I have gotten involved with some great quilters on Instagram and been in a few swaps so far. I have three that are due in Jan. and April. I love it because it keeps me in the sewing room. I have also joined a group committed to sewing our stash in 2015. I can't think of a better idea than that, and have been trying to do it for several years now. I think it will be easier with some accountability. I have a plan and even got a start on it New years eve. Not a great thing to have to admit, but I got started working on a rag quilt my girls started four or five years ago. I worked on it for 4 hours and had to un do almost everything I did. I forgot it had to be planned a little more than just to sew it together.I have laid it out and redid the first 2 rows. I get started on the things I have signed up for and it gets put aside. I will do one or two at a time until it is finished and then I will move on to the next project. I want to complete at least 12 projects that are in process this year. That will barely make a dent in my WIP's, but it will make me feel better. If I can accomplish that this year then maybe next year I will be able to do the same or better.
Well, I actually started this post a couple of weeks before the last one I posted, so I think I will go ahead and put this one up too. Yall have a very quilty week and I'll be back soon.
Here it is the last day of January and I have not posted anything this year, and truthfully not that much last year. I am going to try and make a better showing this year. I am still figuring out the whole photo up load thing. I hardly ever use my camera for pictures now that I have a phone with a great camera on it. My daughter got us a terabyte drive and a device to use to wireless up load when I take pictures. It s great , but I don't understand how to use it and she isn't very patient. LOL
This is the most recent picture I can seem to get to. I made my grand daughters some slouchy hats last year and I was getting ready to send them off when the cat decided she should see how warm they were.
Well, I have joined more mini quilt swaps since I last posted and today I received my mini for the #schnitzelandboo swap. I love it, and hope I can post a picture soon as well as a picture of the one I sent out.
Okay, this is enough for today I am off to watch a class or two on Crafsty for paper piecing.
Until next time yall have a very quilty week,
Well, I have been busy , but today is my day to do laundry, so I have not been in the sewing room. I finished up my Instigram mini for the swap Tue. afternoon. Then had class with my little girl I teach on Wed. I don't usually get much time in the sewing room on class days. I got out a pattern for the next little quilt I am going to make. I still have a few things to make for my partner in the IG swap, and I have started on the Christmas Stocking swap, but still am not sure what I will make for the stocking. I need to get the 2 swaps completed, but I also have a wedding on Sun. I need to get the gift completed and I really want to get my grand daughter her birthday gift. I have to believe I won't be able to finish something on time. Sadly it will be the grand daughters birthday.
My partner for the IG swap has a thing for mermaids, so that is what I made for her. Now just to figure out what other fun things I can make for her, I did some fabric purchases for the last swap, but really can't afford to do that this time, so make gifties will have to do, I hope she won't mind. I will post pictures after she gets it in Dec.
For the Stocking swap my partner really likes snowmen, so for her I have bought and started making snowmen. I asked my daughter to do an embroidery for her and I will frame it, she is starting that next week. I have several ideas that I have never made before, but that is what these swaps are for in my case. I chose to make and do things that stretch me for the swaps. I have done several pieces of applique for the last 2 swaps, and now I am on to other things. I signed up for a class doing paper piecing, on Craftsy. So my next swap I will likely make a paper pieced mini. I'm excited about it, and a little nervous as well.
My daughter and I have set up a pogo plug with a terabyte external hard drive I had, that was not in use. I have done my back ups and now I just have to learn how to get pictures off it when I want to post them on here. I have to admit since my phone camera is always with me I hardly ever get the camera out and use it. I think that may be a mistake, but for now its what happens. Until the learning curve is past I won't be adding photos to my posts. Lets hope the curve won't be too long. LOL
Well, gotta go for now, until next time yall have a very quilty week. Tennye

Hi, how are things? I have just gone through the busiest crazy fun week. Second time ever I got to have all 5 of my children home, with all 5 grandchildren and all except 1 of the spouses. I thought I would have time to sew while they were all home. Hahahahaha who was I kidding? I went to stay with my daughter in Chattanooga when the baby was born back in April. I love that I got the chance to spend some more time with the new baby. He is almost 6 months and the cutest little guy I have ever seen. His big brother is pretty cute too, but you know how it is when it's a baby. So a week with the boys was great, but then there were the girls. I had the one for the whole week, and another for almost a week. Sadly the oldest was only here for the weekend. Now all of them came to be a part of their sister/Aunts wedding. My middle daughter got married Sat. evening in a lovely back yard wedding. Now the day started with a huge rain storm, and that did cause some distress and some fast thinking and working. My new son in law and his brother found some hay and then all the guys in the wedding and some extra friends got out and spread the hay for the wedding to happen with out much mud. It was a beautiful wedding and they are married. Was this a stressful time, yes, but it was wonderful to have them all together and such fun. I have come to the conclusion that my family love each other and are willing to be here for any thing the other needs.
I have gotten into Instagram and I kind of tripped into a Mini Quilt swap for cat lovers. Gotta get it in the mail tomorrow. I really should be sewing the binding on, since I didn't get it done last week. I decided to join another one that is due the 1st of Dec. and then I guess I got crazy and joined a Christmas one too. LOL It all seemed so easy at first, then after I signed up I began to panic. I am excited though. I told my grand daughter I would be late with her birthday gift since she will be 16 on the 18th of this month. I have 2 other grand daughters with birthdays in Dec. and a grand son too.
So until I get back I hope you will all have a very quilty week.
I was just going through the blogs I follow and wondering if I need to just shut this blog sown. I read only the first line of a blog and it hit me I need to talk about that. Have you had those days, weeks, or even months when you need to be doing one thing and you really want to, but you don't. It isn't even that you don't have time or desire, but for what ever reason you just don't go do it. Well, that is how my life has been for months, I know I was out of commission for 2 months and that kept me away from here. That wasn't a reason for me staying out of the sewing room, well the time I was out of town was a good reason to not be in there. Needless to say I let that time I was sick seems to have given me an excuse to just give up on the stuff I need to and want to do. My next to the youngest daughter is working on a quilt for her new nephew and she too is having a hard time getting it done. She isn't really a quilter, or even a sewist as the blogs are want to call what I call a seamstress. However she made her first nephew a quilt when he was born and now wants to make sure that her younger nephew doesn't feel left out when he grows up. I am guilty myself, I got so busy before he was born that I didn't get his quilt finished and now it just seems like its hard to get motivate.
Well, Aften (daughter) came over on Sat. with her quilt project and asked for my help getting it moving. I spent most of the day getting a section of her quilt made and completed, so , now she can get it finished. She is frustrated with how long it is taking, and finding it hard to make herself sit down and just do the work. I think I am feeling just a little of the same frustration myself. Oh well, on I go off to get some laundry done and maybe even spend some time in the sewing room and get some blocks finished.
I tried to post some pictures of the quilts in question, but alas they have not uploaded to my dropbox, so I don't have access to them on here.
Until next time yall have a very quilty week and I hope it won't be so long before I get back.
Well, I have been gone for a long time and once I got home hubby and I were both sick. I spent three wonderful weeks with my daughter and her family. She gave birth to my newest grandson three days before I got there and I stayed with her as long as I could. Hubby made a trip to see his father and family in Pittsburgh, PA for a week and then came to spend a week with us at our daughters. Unfortunately he had not been there more than a day when he came down with a coughing problem . The next day I too came down with what appeared to be the same thing. Sore throat, cough and we both lost our voice. We stayed until the end of the week and we had a room reservation for the trip home so we left even though we both felt horrible. We took turns driving that day, other wise we would not have made it. We had the hardest time staying awake. Our plan had been to stop in the DFW area and spend a day or two with my aunt and uncle, but we felt so bad we thought it best to just go home.

It was a rough day, but we were so glad to be home. The day we left for home our granddaughter saw the Dr. and she told them she had strep throat. However when I saw the Dr. here at home they told me that was not what I had. I took a round of antibiotics and five days after I finished it I felt as bad as I did the day I started them. So total we have been sick for 3 weeks. I am trying to get back to work and so is hubby, but odd times we have coughing fits still.
I have two quilts in progress as well as pillows for my friend out of his moms clothing. I got a call from a past customer who is wanting a couple of quilts too. Needless to say I have lots to do, so I need to get my strength back.
On the 1st I was invited to do a 30 day challenge, 30 sit ups for 30 days. I have done pretty good with it, in that I have done it every day, but my sit ups don't really look like sit ups LOL they look more like an aggressive crunch. Maybe by the end of the month they will be full sit ups.
I am so happy to be home and feeling some what better, I hope my little student will be back this week to finish her project we started in April, and I have plans for other things she can do over the summer.
I have pictures, but I still haven't figured out how to get them from my cloud to my computer, so until I do I won't be posting them. Something to look forward to, until next time yall have a very quilty week.
I had a little trouble getting up today, with the time change. Then I found myself wanting to just go back to sleep, but I didn't I kept trying to function as usual. Coffee was just not enough, so I had a little chocolate. That didn't help. Hubby was not supposed to be home for lunch and Aften is trying to get back to fasting one day a week. So I didn't need to have lunch ready at any special time. Aften needed to go to the post office before she came home and she called and asked if I would like to go with her to Good Will to look for a night stand for her room. Seems she is changing sides of the bed and the one on her new side is just a small table that won't cut it. LOL We didn't find any thing she liked, so came home and visited until she needed to go back to work.
I have been wanting some toasted little pieces of french bread, and we had a short piece of it left from the weekend. I cut it up and put some olive oil on it and placed it in the toaster oven to cook while I finished heating up my lunch. I got it all heated up and took it to the living room since I was eating alone. I am really enjoying my meal and suddenly I smell a burning smell. I remember the toast, and it is too late. I run in there and smoke is coming out of the toaster oven. I turn it off and turn around to put my lunch down. When I turn back around I see flames pouring out of the oven, I guess I though turning it off would stop the cooking. WRONG!!!!! I can't think what to use to get it out and put the flames out. Finally I get my thoughts on and find a pot holder and pull it out. Flames leap higher as I give them more air. I dump it into the sink and turn it on. This did not douse the flames as I thought it would. I had to start using my hand to splash it over the flames. What a mess, but I am really awake now. Well, thanks for whoever started Day light savings time!!! Not a fan.
Yall have a very quilty week, until I talk to you again.
Well, I have mentioned to you the upcoming quilt I need to make, or maybe two. I have not planned and designed a quilt in several years now. I don't put my quilts in shows and I have not entered any competitions with my quilts, so I just feel like, why reinvent the wheel, every time I make a new quilt. I find a pattern I like and tweak it to fit my needs. This time I needed a pattern that would include blocks of multiple sizes. I knew it would take forever to find a quilt with the measurements I needed, so, out came the graph paper pad and my pencils. I spent an hour or so figuring out the blocks and the overall plan of blocks and borders. Then for over an hour I searched for my block book. I had several of the 100 Block magazines and of course many quilt books. However my favorite book has multiple sizes for all the blocks in it. It is" Around the Block Again" by Judy Hopkins. I have made so many quilts with the help of this book. I find the block I want to use and she has already done the math for any size I might want. Ironically I never made it to her book, to look for a block. I was given a block a day calendar for Christmas a couple of years ago and I happened to find it while looking for the block book. On a whim I started looking through it for blocks in one of the sizes I need. I found Cupids Arrow Point block with a finished size of 12 in. I love it and since I have planned a heart block for the corner stones of the border it just fits this quilt. Bonus there is a nice sized center for adding photo blocks of friends and family.
Well, gotta go finish up lunch so until next time, yall have a very quilty day.
I started this year with big ideas and lots of ambition. That has translated to my being kind of busy. I am spending lots of time doing some research on the money and dolls that I want to sell. You would think that since I have had them most of my life and watched my Grandmother, and parents and even my great grandmother collecting and going thru coins and putting them in books and..... that I would have acquired some knowledge. Sadly if I had any I have forgotten it or it has become obsolete over the years. I even have some paper money that is supposed to be worth so much, and I can't find any of it on the Internet for sale. As for the dolls, well I never really knew anything about them and some have lost a portion of their value because in the 70's they told my grandmother it would make them more valuable if she had new bodies and clothes put on them. It has turned out that is not so much the case, those leather bodies make the doll worth much more. One bisque doll was 80 years old in the 70's, so is well over 100 years old. Having the leather body removed and replaced with cotton makes people think she is a replica instead of the real thing.
Okay enough of that, I have been either walking or recently dancing four or five days a week, that takes more out of my day than I thought it would. I am also cleaning out my home. Stuff is going out weekly, that has been just stored for years. Having done all we did at my parents house after daddy died, has inspired me. I don't want my family to have that to deal with, the collections make the clean out harder, but it will get done. I have been going thru my sewing room too. I have a list of projects that I need to complete and the ones my family have asked for. The new grandson that is on the way means a new baby quilt too. The oldest grand daughter is graduating so what will I make for her??? Yes her mom wants me to make the quilt for her to take to college, but there has to bee something from me too.
As previously discussed, there is also the desire to find some amazing thing I can make that will sell like hot cakes the minute I post the first one.
Well, I need to go for now, but I hope I won't be off line here as long this time. So until next time yall have a very quilty week.

I always think the new year gives us a clean slate to start new. I have not gotten such a good start on this one. On the other hand I get pretty excited when I think about what this year can be. I can lose weight, get healthy and truly complete some of the things I have started and put off. I have gotten a good start, with just moving my body more. I am walking and dancing to start with the health, and I am here blogging as well. I have already completed my grand daughters Beanie Slouch hats for her birthday. I made 2 for the younger one and now I have made 2 for the older one and as a bonus I made one for my daughter too. Now I have done a few headbands that I think are cute. I have not crocheted in many years and I kind of enjoyed it.
I find myself in need of an income, and for what ever reason I think crafting would be a good source of regular income. However finding a product that will sell is a completely different thing. I have ideas and I need to follow through on them, but if you have followed me for a while you know follow through is not my strongest character. I also have some things I could sell, if I could figure our how much they are worth and who might be most willing to buy them. My grand mother collected dolls for all of my life until she passed away. Those were supposed to be an inheritance for me.

Well, now I need them and don't really know any thing about them. My dad collected coins and money for the same reason. Now I need it and know very little about it except that most coin shops will cheat you if you go in now knowing what you have or how much it is worth. I tried to sell a coin several years ago, and I had an idea it was worth a nice amount and the guy said it was only worth about a dollar or two. I knew better than that, so I left and took my coin with me. I am trying to do research on line and have even gone to the library to read some books. I feel like I am swimming in a sea of numbers that don't mean any thing.I will keep researching.
Well, I need to get busy and I have books I need to return to the library today, so I'm going to go do that. So until the next time I have a few minutes yall have a very quilty week.
Well, if you have checked in lately you will know I have been off line. I wish I could say I have gotten tuns of stuff done, but to be honest a good part of that time I was trying not to walk much and just not doing much. I did a 5K with my girls in early Nov. and for the silliest reason of all I wore the wrong shoes and came home with two huge blisters one on each foot. I a pretty sure I will lose at least one toe nail and maybe two. I have learned some great exercises for my feet and they don't hurt as often as they have most of my life. But this has been a painful time. UGH One of the blisters is gone and all the skin has come off, but still it kind of burns when I walk or stand for long. I am not letting that keep me down I got back on the road last week and actually made it four days. I'm back up to 1.16 mile and that is pretty good since I am just back four days. LOL
I can say I finished one quilt, and have one that if I can I will finish it either Fri. or early next week. I made four so far beanie slouch hats for two of my grand daughters and I am working on another one for my daughter. We got a work bench for our new to be son in law and it came in the some assembly required form. We got that all built yesterday, and we found a pair of short bar stools for one of our daughters in someones trash. We took them all apart and repainted them and took the seat cushions off and I reupholstered them with fabric I had for her curtains in her living room . Curtains that I also got made during the time I have been off line. I also have completed mothers whole house in curtains and pillows. She got 4 lumbar pillows and I made them to match the guest bedroom and the master bedroom. I guess maybe I haven't just been sitting around after all. It just feels like it.
I have pictures on my phone, but I am having problems figuring out how to get them onto the blog. I haven't taken much time trying to figure it out lately. I did spend a few min.s last month, but not lately.
We have started our Christmas cooking, and I really need to get more done so I guess I need to get off here. Yall have a very Merry Christmas and a quilty new year.
Just a short rant, about Google and the changes they have made recently. I don't use the email associated with this blog for email other than for the blog. I do however have a gmail account I use for email. Now Google makes me connect them to each other. For what ever reason when I clicked to sign on to my blog it automatically went to my other email and I had to figure out how to log in so I could post. Frustration!!!!
Okay I will leave it along, I just needed to vent. I have bought 2 kits this weekend and I already have another one I got for a very reasonable price. I got to looking at the latest one and I could not have bought the fabric for the quilt for the price I paid for the kit. So pattern, fabric and backing for the cost of some patterns. Color me excited. I will post pictures along with progress in the next few days.
My niece had her baby girl early on the morning of the first. They live in Pennsylvania so we have only seen pictures, but she is a beauty. I know her mommy and big brother and sister are excited that she is here. I bought a lovely breast cancer awareness fleece that is white with the pink ribbons. I will embroider her name and birth info then either use a satin blanket binding or just use the serger and finish the edges. The fabric is so pretty, and I know it isn't baby fabric, but the pink is the color her room is decorated in. Maybe they won't think it is a bad choice.
Update on the 3 UFO challenge, I have the wall hanging almost completely quilted, and I'm working on the hand quilting as often as I feel the urge. As soon as the wall hanging is finished I will get right on to the baby quilt. I am so excited about these 3 getting finished. Well, until next time yall have a very quilty week.
Well, I just hate it when my day doesn't turn out the way I though it would. Even worse when it is that way more than one day in a week. This week has been that kind of week. I am glad that is hasn't made me crazy, but I wish I was on a better track for completing the UFO challenge and, you know, other things I want to do.
Last week I found out my first cousins daughter who is 35 has breast cancer. I am hopeful for her, and very glad that she didn't ignore the lump she found on her breast by accident. Through this we are hearing that more and more often cancer is being found in younger women. Not just breast cancer, but cervical and all of the reproductive parts. We aren't being told what they think is causing it, just that is is happening. I know that just a short 3 years ago my daughter was diagnosed with HPV, and after she was treated they did a final pap and it was abnormal. We went through a lot of emotions during that 3 years, but what she went through was more. She got angry, and she decided to fight for her health. She started working out 5 or 6 days a week, and lost over 75 lbs. She is much healthier and the last pap was clear. After her bad one she went every 6 months for a year and a half. With 3 clear paps she is free to go back to yearly or bi-yearly tests. We get to breath free again, but how many families are still suffering. My heart and prayers go out to those going through it all.
All of that was to say I have a quilt I want to complete for her while she is taking chemo. I have heard much about how cold they get during the treatments, and I would hate for her to not have a home made quilt to keep her warm , from someone who lovers her very much.
On a brighter note, my son got a day off and came to town for the day. He took his dad and I to lunch and we are all planning to get together for dinner. Then he will have to drive back to Houston so he can go to work again tomorrow. He is getting his latest tattoo touched up in the mean time. Guess I will try and get some sewing done while i wait. Until next time yall have a very quilty week.
Well, finally things are starting to look like normal again after, what, a year now. Then getting sick two weeks ago didn't help. LOL The end of this week though things in my head started feeling better and along with them I got some motivation to get moving and get sewing.
I am happy to say I layered my grand daughters wall hanging so it is ready for some time at the machine. Then I got the quilt out that I am hand quilting and I have put a couple of hours into it already. The weather has been nice out side, but that means it is kind of hot in the house. The A/C won't come on and why turn it on if we really don't need it. However that makes it hot enough that getting under a quilt is not as appealing as it would be if it was cooler. The weather man keeps promising us cool fronts, but so far they have not given us cold, just cool.
Well, I have several things I would like to say ,so I will start with the title one. One of the Yahoo groups I am in has started a UFO Challenge for the end of the year. Three projects between now and Dec. 31,2013. I have chosen the wall hanging I started for my granddaughters birthday last Dec., a baby quilt I started almost 3 years ago and a hand quilting project I should have finished 4 years ago. I get started on it and some major world changing problem hits my family. I think that is all over now and I will be able to finish it quickly now. I am believing that.
The next thing I need to talk about is the fact that I got an email from someone saying that I have 24 followers on some free.... website. I have not given any one or any websites my permission to publish my blog. So if you happen to be reading this on any site other than my blogspot, I would appreciate if you would come over and post a comment for me. I am not sure how I will take care of it, but I will start with complaining to Google for allowing someone other than me to forward it to some other website. I have read about this one another blog and I thought I did what she recommended, but maybe I haven't.
I have been MIA for a long time, I am sorry for that, but family life has been stressful and busy for so many months now. My mom and daughter are still living in their homes without them being completely finished. We ,just this week, have gotten the moisture barrier under both of the room additions. That means the underpinning can be completed under those rooms now. Once that is done we will be clear for a few months at least. We still have to finish out the insides of those rooms, but will have time to do that as we can afford it. So excited to see the light at the end of this tunnel.
I spent a week with my daughter in TN in Sept. , we had a great time, I will post pictures in a day or so. We saw the Aquarium, and Rock City both in the same day. Then we went to Lynchburg, TN to visit the town and tour the Jack Daniels distillery. I will have more on all of that next time, so until then yall have a very quilty week.
Life has been a roller coaster this whole summer. We went to DFW and picked my mom up from her sisters home a few weeks ago. It has been busier, since she got home, than it already has been all summer. I still have her car with me, but I think tomorrow I will take it back to her. We have a very busy month coming in Sept. and we will be traveling almost all month. I just want this process to be finished, and both my mom and daughter living in their homes. I know hind sight is much clearer than foresight, but wow I wish we had known what this was going to be like. A new house or even a previously lived in house would have been easier and faster than what we have gone through with these.
Time to sew has been limited and quilting has been out of the question. Now I am working on a reupholster project for my daughter, and curtains for both mother and daughter. Today I finally have time, and here I am writing. I will head to the sewing room in a few minutes, and hope to get back to write again tomorrow.
So until I can get back yall have a very quilty week.
Wow, I miss my time blogging and my time sewing. I finally found some time last week and early this week to do a few little things. I had prepped some fabric for a project a month or so ago, and it got cancelled. I got a couple of those out and made some lanyards for keys, and cut out four make up bags.
I made 7 of the lanyards, and then discussed it with my daughter, and we agreed that I had made them too long. So I took them apart while I was watching TV that night, and remade them the next day. I like the way they turned out and with the fabric I cut off I was able to make three more. So now I have 10 in that color and I ended up with enough to make three in the fabrics I am making the make up bags in. I ended up with 13 lanyards to either sell or give away. I have 2 of the make up bags made, and will make the other 2 this after noon if there is time.Yea, I had so much fun just doing that little amount of sewing.
I have a quilt that needs to be layered for quilting, but I usually have to do that on the floor, and I pulled a muscle in my back at the gym a few weeks ago, so floor time is limited. I am looking for a table large enough to use so I can get on with it. I could clear off my table that I have my sewing machine on, but that is maybe a little more trouble than I want to take. I have started doing some physical therapy exercises, that I found on line for the back, so maybe i could just wait another week until I feel better. I need to work in the sewing room and I don't want to dismantle my table and put it back together. That would mean not getting to work there. LOL
Well, I guess I need to get back to work on house stuff so I can find time to sew. Until next time, yall have a very quilty week.
Well, it took us what four or five weeks to get mother moved out of her place, and demolition done to the buildings we needed to remove. Then the night before they told us they would move the old one out, we had to take the porch down, and store it for future use. Five weeks later they finally moved it completely off the property. The new house is in place and has water and electric connected. The A/C is in and we have started moving in the boxes and furniture. However, we cant turn the water on because there is a leak that is a factory problem. Problem; no one bothered to tell us or to tell the sale office either. So I finally called them and now they have contacted the plant and we should be hearing from them soon.
My daughters house is moving much more slowly, since there has never been water or electric on her land. I have a ton of pictures, but just decided to no bore you all with those. Every time I have to go over and wait for some one to do a service, I open a few boxes and empty them. As soon as we can turn the water back on I will start doing some dishes and putting more of the stuff away they I have been taking out of the boxes. I am ready for this to be over as you may have guess. I have had about three good days in the sewing room and I really wish I had more tome to sew. I will soon enough and when I do I will have two projects to really get busy with. So until I have a some more time yall have a very quilty week. I miss you all.
